Parenting perspective: Dad proud of teens

Son, it seems like just yesterday that the doctor put You on my hand and I felt what it was like to be a father for the first time, it’s a mixture of AWE, fear and pride, all spinning around in my head and oxygen-less sleep. And I have been blessed every day because because your secret learning as a parent is that it just gets better with age.

TK. found condoms in our playground

The girl found a condom, February 22, during a break, said the spokesman for the Douglas County School District Randy Barber. Although the adult supervisor at the playground didn’t see it with a condom, the girl was reported to have put it in his pocket, then show it to her parents and told them he had been trying to inflate it. After the parents called the school to report the incident, a staff member looking for a place to play and found two more condoms. They, too, appears unused.

“We have never been able to see the original condom he had in his pocket,” said Barber. “We make assumptions other students may take them to school.”

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood on the beach discussing human trafficking

Ocean Springs, Mississippi–the Attorney General Jim Hood was on the beach this morning bring awareness to human trafficking across the country and plans to strengthen laws that relate to the crime in question.

Tents and others spoke in depth about human trafficking training at the Conference this morning in Gulf Hills Hotel and Conference Center. The Conference also dealt with juvenile prostitution, gang relations and other issues related to human trafficking.

Hood added, though, his Office has not prosecuted any cases of human trafficking, “there are some in the pipeline.”

Hood said most of the little victims of human trafficking are forced to prostitute themselves and the court system to treat them as criminals rather than victims.
